We all knew it was going to happen. But seeing the numbers still can make an impact:

“According to IDC, smartphone manufacturers shipped 100.9 million devices in the fourth quarter of 2010, while PC manufacturers shipped 92.1 million units worldwide.”

That quote comes from a ReadWriteWeb story on how smartphones outsold PCs in 2010′s Q4.

More than ever before, our consumers and prospects are in charge of deciding how they want to consume content and interact with our company. A growing portion of those people are going to prefer to take those actions on their smartphones.

When that happens, will their experience be pleasant? Putting forth the effort to mobile-optimize your site will help ensure that the consumer ends up happy.
